Optimisation of Backpack Dynamics Using Gait Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده
Backpacks are common devices that enable people to increase their load carriage capabilities, not only in military missions but also in civilian activities. When heavily loaded, some inadequate load-carriage systems may lead to excessive fatigue or even impair the user. The purpose of the study described here is to increase the understanding of dynamic backpack behaviour and its impact on the user’s performance. Such knowledge can then be used to optimise the design of load carriage systems.

Dynamic analysis of load carriage biomechanics during level walking.
This paper describes an investigation into the biomechanical effects of load carriage dynamics on human locomotion performance. A whole body, inverse dynamics gait model has been developed which uses only kinematic input data to define the gait cycle. To provide input data, three-dimensional gait measurements have been conducted to capture whole body motion while carrying a backpack. A nonlinea...
متن کاملHuman Gait Control Using Functional Electrical Stimulation Based on Controlling the Shank Dynamics
Introduction: Efficient gait control using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is an open research problem. In this research, a new intermittent controller has been designed to control the human shank movement dynamics during gait. Methods: In this approach, first, the three-dimensional phase space was constructed using the human shank movement data recorded from the healthy subjects. Then...
متن کاملGait Curves for Human Recognition, Backpack Detection and Silhouette Correction in a Nighttime Environment
The need for an automated surveillance system is pronounced at night when the capability of the human eye to detect anomalies is reduced. While there have been significant efforts in the classification of individuals using human metrology and gait, the majority of research assumes a day-time environment. The aim of this study is to move beyond traditional image acquisition modalities and explor...
متن کاملEmergency department resource optimisation for improved performance: a review
Emergency departments (EDs) have been becoming increasingly congested due to the combined impacts of growing demand, access block and increased clinical capability of the EDs. This congestion has known to have adverse impacts on the performance of the healthcare services. Attempts to overcome with this challenge have focussed largely on the demand management and the application of system wide p...
متن کاملSpine Buddy® Supportive Pad Impact on Single-Leg Static Balance and a Jogging Gait of Individuals Wearing a Military Backpack
The Spine Buddy® supportive pad was developed to be inserted underneath military backpacks to help disperse the heavy load of the backpack. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact the additional supportive pad had on static balance and a running gait while wearing a military backpack. Forty healthy subjects (age= 27.5 + 5.6 yrs, body height= 1.78 + 0.06 m, body mass= 86.5 + 14.0 k...
